MENORAH WELCOMES THIS SHABBAT MORNING Dina and Mario Blumenkrantz
Dina and Mario are dedicated Zionists who moved to Sderot with a deep commitment to strengthening Israel's southern region. Dina, born in Israel to a father from Yemen and a mother from Tripoli, Libya, who survived the Giado concentration camp during the Holocaust. Mario was born in Havana, Cuba, in 1961, and his family immigrated to Israel in 1966. His father escaped Poland before the Holocaust.
On October 7, 2023, their hometown of Sderot was brutally attacked by Hamas gunmen, resulting in the tragic loss of many lives, including friends of Dina and Mario. Their own lives were spared thanks to a timely warning from their son, Oron, 37, a police officer who also heroically fought to save lives during the attack on the Nova festival. Displaced by the attack, Dina and Mario lived out of a suitcase in a Tel Aviv hotel room for nearly ten months before finally returning to their home in Sderot in August 2024. Their family embodies resilience and unwavering faith in the face of adversity.
